Basically it is used to manage the editorial content of a Web site and computer application that allows publishing, editing and modifying content, organizing, deleting as well as maintenance from a central interface and it is known as Web management system.

CMSs are often used to run websites containing blogs,shopping, and news

Uses of CMS(content management system)

  • use of content management systems is to store and organize files,and provide version-controlled access to their data.
  • CMSs can be used for  controlling,  semantically enriching,revising and storing, publishing documentation.
  • CMSs is used for format management, web-based publishing,and indexing,revision control, search, and retrieval.
  • Many of the marketing and corporate  websites use CMSs. It usually used to avoid the need for hand coding.

Basic Elements of CMS

The content management system (CMS) has two elements:

  • CMA (content management application)Content management application (CMA) is the front-end user interface that allows a user, to add, modify and remove content from a Web site without the intervention of a Webmaster.
  • CDA (content delivery application)Content delivery application (CDA) compiles that information and updates the Web site.
